Toys for Tots 2011

Personal Care Dentistry is an official Toys for Tots drop-off site!

Each year Toys for Tots collects new, unwrapped toys and then distributes them as gifts to children in need. The objectives of the annual Toys for Tots drive are to help children in need experience the joy of the holiday season, to nurture the development of children, to unite members of local communities in a common cause and to contribute to the future betterment of communities. In the 63 years since the Toys for Tots program began, the Marines have distributed more than 419 million toys to more than 195 million underprivileged children.

Tony - Actual Patient here at Personal Care Dentistry

Please join with us in the spirit of giving by donating new, unwrapped toys here at our practice. We will be collecting donations until December 20th, after which we will be delivering them to our local Toys For Tots foundation.

Thank you for keeping our community strong and our children happy this holiday season!

Sincerely,

~ Dr. Walter Hunt and the staff at Personal Care Dentistry

Why do I fear the dentist?

Have you ever wondered why so many people fear the dentist?

I know I have! In fact I have spent well over thirty years helping people overcome their fears. Here are some conclusions I have come to.

Knowledge is power!
First, whether grounded in reality or not peoples fears are real to them. It’s my job to help address and alleviate those fears. Often times all that is necessary is talking with and educating patients about all that is going on. Once all questions have been answered there is less chance for one’s imagination blowing things out of proportion.

You’re the boss!
Secondly, letting my patients know that they are in complete control of the appointment and can stop at anytime and for any reason helps a lot.

Do whatever it takes!
Finally, using a gentle technique along with the proper combination of anesthetics and anxiety reducers (Novocain, Nitrous Oxide, Valium, etc.) is key to providing a relaxed and painless experience for my patients.

At Personal Care Dentistry we will always take the time to make your appointment painless, stress free, and enjoyable!

Underwater Anemone

By Dr. Walter Hunt, DDS

This picture was taken off the east coast of Grand Cayman in 1992. It was a rainy windy day and I was diving with my 15 year old son Skip who had just gotten his junior certification. Just getting to the dive site was an adventure and the 40 minute boat ride in 10 foot waves had many in the dive group feeling pretty sick by the time we arrived. Getting under the water was a relief just being out of the rain and wind but there was quite a surge down there to deal with. As we made our way along the ocean floor at 60 feet below the surface I noticed branches of this sea anemone being wildly thrown in one direction and then another by the strong underwater currents. I motioned to my son to hold my legs to try and steady me in the current while I took a few shots. The result is this picture of the anemone with its arms intertwined from the strong back and forth action of the underwater surge!  (thanks Skip!)
